Why owner-managed businesses need an employer brand

We're not a recruitment marketing agency that dresses up job ads. We build the employer brand behind them - an Employer Branding strategy built for owner-managed businesses. If you need an agency that handles brand and web as well as employer branding, you've come to the right place.

The skills shortage hits independent businesses harder than it hits corporates. You can't match Google or SAP on salary. But you can offer something they can't: fast decisions, real responsibility, direct access to the people who run the business.

The problem? Those strengths are invisible. No careers page on your website. No team insights on LinkedIn. Job ads that read like everyone else's. Candidates don't see why they should join you - so they apply to the corporate with the recognisable name instead.

Employer branding puts those strengths on the map. Not through a glossy image campaign, but through honest insight, real employee stories, and a careers page that shows what working with you actually looks like.

Four Pillars of a Compelling Employer Brand

From positioning to careers page.

01

EVP Development

What makes you worth working for? In a focused workshop with leadership and team, we define your Employer Value Proposition - the promise that sets you apart from every other employer on the shortlist. No buzzwords. Just the real strengths candidates actually care about.

02

Careers Page and Job Adverts

A careers page that shows rather than claims. Real team photos, honest glimpses of day-to-day life, staff voices. Plus job adverts that sound like your business - not like every other listing on StepStone.

03

Social Recruiting

LinkedIn and Instagram, used properly, are powerful hiring tools. For mid-sized businesses, employer branding on social media isn't about polished campaigns - it's about showing who you actually are. We build content that does exactly that: team snapshots, project stories, behind-the-scenes moments. Organic posts and targeted ads, aimed at the right candidates in your area.

04

Employer Branding Workshop

One day with your leadership team and staff. We work out what sets you apart, why people stay, and what they tell their friends. From that, we build your employer brand - with a concrete action plan for the next six months.

The best candidates don't come through job boards. They come because someone told them about you.

Employer branding gives them something worth talking about - and makes sure it reaches the right people. A strong employer branding strategy connects your positioning as an employer, your careers page, and social media into one system that attracts applicants without you having to chase each one individually.

Employer Branding Case Study: Mechanical Engineering, Rhein-Main

The situation: A 120-person engineering manufacturer. Three open engineering roles, all vacant for more than eight months. No careers page. Job ads on StepStone, zero traction. The MD summed it up: "We lose every applicant to the big Frankfurt corporates."

What we did: A full-day workshop with HR and six employees from across the business. From that, a clear EVP: "Here, you build machines you know by name." We launched a careers page - team photography, four employee interviews in video and written form. Built out the technical director's LinkedIn profile as an active recruiting channel. Rewrote every job ad from scratch.

Six months on: All three roles filled. Twelve unsolicited applications through the careers page. Two hires via direct LinkedIn outreach. Staff turnover in the same period: none. The HR director put it simply: "For the first time, people are applying because they found us - not because we chased them."

Your best job ad is an employee who tells their mates: You should work here.

Employer branding isn't a one-off project - it's an ongoing commitment. The foundations - EVP, careers page, initial content - are typically in place within six to eight weeks. After that, it's about consistent upkeep: fresh employee stories, a careers page that stays current, and a growing social media presence.

Yes - especially then. Smaller businesses often have the strongest selling points: flat structures, varied work, and a direct impact on results. The challenge is getting those advantages noticed. Employer branding at this scale moves faster than in a corporate environment - and often hits harder, because the stories are genuine.

We'll need access to your team - for interviews, photos and a workshop. Alongside that: your current logo and brand identity (if you have one), existing job adverts, and a summary of open roles. No brand identity yet? We'll develop one in parallel.

Yes. We combine employer branding with corporate design and web development. If you need a new website and a fresh visual identity at the same time, we handle both in a single project. That saves time, cuts costs and delivers a consistent result.

First results show within 4-6 weeks - once the careers page is live and the first LinkedIn posts are out. Measurable gains - more applications, better-quality candidates - typically follow within 3-4 months. Long-term, recruiting costs fall. You rely less on job boards and headhunters.

The most effective employer branding moves for mid-sized businesses: a clear EVP, an honest careers page with real photos, stronger job adverts, regular employee stories on LinkedIn, and a workplace culture you're actually proud to show. Less campaign, more credibility. As a full-service advertising agency, we can put all of it to work - from careers page to social content.
